🌈✨ Reclaiming Pride means honoring the roots of our movement and celebrating the resilience of those who fought for our rights. It’s a powerful reminder that Pride began as a protest against oppression, a call for justice, and a celebration of identity. 🌍✊
This month, let's reflect on the courage of those who paved the way, from the Stonewall Riots to today’s ongoing fight for equality. It’s time to amplify marginalized voices, educate ourselves, and stand in solidarity with all members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
Join us as we reclaim Pride by embracing our history, celebrating our diversity, and advocating for a future where love knows no bounds! 💖🏳️🌈

HOMES STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH RARICANOW:
We at Homes stand in full solidarity with Adebayo Chris Katiiti and Raricanow in response to the return of the Edmonton Pride Parade.
As a Two Spirit and Queer led agency, we know firsthand the pain of extreme lateral violence-perpetrated not only by broader systems but also within both the Queer and Indigenous communities. While we acknowledge the desire many have to celebrate pride, we must also remember that pride did not begin as a party. It began as a protest, led by BLACK TRANS WOMEN who fought for liberation-not just for themselves, but for all of us.
For year, pride had been hijacked by cisgender, white-dominated narratives and leadership. When BIPOC Queer voices rise up to speak truth, we are too often shunned, vilified, and isolated.
We echo the calls for this year’s pride to be transformed into a TRANS MARCH. Let this be a visible, powerful demonstration of where Edmonton-and Alberta stands in the face of the rising attacks on Trans Lives and Rights.
We call for a pride that is grounded in JUSTICE and ACCOUNTABILITY. That means no police and no military in our spaces. Their presence, especially after the violent removal of unhoused community members from drag fest this past weekend and surveillance around bathroom, proves they have not learned their place-which is outside of queer spaces.
We urge the organizers to work with Raricanow to build a truly Trans-Inclusive pride. One that honors the roots of pride as resistance pride is not simply a celebration - it is, and always has been, A PROTEST.
In solidarity,
Everyone at Homes (Hope, Opportunity, Mobilization, Education, Society)

“No pride for some of us without liberation for all of us.” - Marsha P. Johnson

A CALL TO ACTION REGARDING THE SCHEDULED RETURN OF PRIDE PARADE IN EDMONTON
The return of the Parade and the New Edmonton’s Pride Fest must not erase the painful history of exclusion, harm, and systemic oppression that marginalized communities—particularly Black, Indigenous, Two-Spirit, and People of Color (QTBIPOC) within the trans and gender-diverse spectrum—have endured.
The cancellation of Edmonton Pride in 2019, following the 2018 halt of the parade in protest against police participation, unleashed a fierce backlash from the broader 2SLGBTQ+ community. Instead of solidarity, QTBIPOC individuals became scapegoats—facing racism, transphobia, and a stark lack of transparency and accountability from festival organizers. Members of our community were threatened, ostracized, told to “go back where they came from,” and even lost jobs, networks, and support systems as blame for the festival’s cancellation was cruelly placed on them.
We must acknowledge: The 2019 Edmonton Pride Festival deployed police against QTBIPOC community members—the very institution responsible for ongoing oppression. Yet, the larger community failed to stand in defense of the racialized, most at risk population within the 2SLGBTQ+ movement. This betrayal cannot be ignored.
Pride must be reclaimed to its roots. Whether this is a *new* Edmonton Pride Fest Organizers or a continuation of its past structures, it must be intentionally built by and for the community—reflecting the true legacy of Pride as a resistance movement.
Pride was ignited by Black and Latinx transgender women, Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, who fought back against police brutality, systemic oppression, and the erasure of trans voices. We must honor their legacy by ensuring that Black transgender individuals are no longer sidelined, silenced, or erased from history.
If Pride is to truly be inclusive, it must center and amplify the QTBIPOC trans community—not as an afterthought, but as the **foundation** of the movement.
As a few celebrate the return of the Pride Parade to the streets of Edmonton, we must not let the excitement overshadow the harsh reality of ongoing attacks against our community. Transphobia, racial injustice, discrimination, and the rise of anti-trans policies continue to threaten our existence. The systematic banning of books and Pride flags from libraries is not just an act of censorship—it is a deliberate attempt to erase our identities and suffocate self-expression.
Since 2024, RARICAnow has engaged with the Edmonton Pride Festival. Despite multiple follow-ups in February, March, and May, we received no response. However, after engaging with the media, Edmonton Pride Fest reached out, offering food truck donations, positioning RARICAnow at the back of the parade, and an unconfirmed "pay-what-you-can" after-party donation. While these gestures are appreciated, they do not address the urgent needs of our community.
The Trans Community non-negotiable demands to Edmonton Pride Fest organizers;
1. Transform the Pride Parade into the TRANS MARCH 2025 - Acknowledge the urgent need for trans advocacy by rebranding the event as a TRANS MARCH, centering trans voices and featuring speeches by prominent trans activists.
2. Create Inclusive Spaces for BIPOC Trans Individuals (TRANS LIBERATION SPACE) - Establish a dedicated safe space where BIPOC trans people can express themselves freely, with access to food, security, education materials and affirming activities, including discussions on gender-affirming practices. - RARICAnow is prepared to collaborate in co-creating this space.
3. Honor the History of Pride- Acknowledge the historical contributions of trans activists and their pivotal role in the Pride movement through programming and recognition at the Pride stage in Alberta.
4. No Police or Military Presence in the TRANS MARCH - Safety must be defined by the community, not by institutions that have historically oppressed us. We demand a march free from police and military participation.
Our liberation cannot wait. Our voices will not be silenced. We will march, we will build, and we will demand justice.

International Transgender Day
of Visibility
March 31, 2025
Celebrating International Transgender Day of Visibility
Each year on March 31st, we come together to honor and celebrate the transgender community on International Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV). This day is all about recognizing the strength, resilience, and accomplishments of transgender individuals while raising awareness about the challenges they still face in many parts of the world.
TDOV serves as a reminder of the importance of visibility in the fight for equality. It’s a day to amplify transgender voices, celebrate their stories, and acknowledge the diverse experiences that make up the transgender community. Visibility is key to breaking down stereotypes, dismantling harmful misconceptions, and ensuring that transgender people are seen, heard, and respected.
While TDOV is a celebration, it also calls attention to the ongoing need for acceptance, legal protection, and support for transgender individuals, especially in areas where discrimination and violence are still rampant. It's a day to reflect on how far we've come and recognize the work still needed to create a world where all transgender people can live authentically and safely.✊🏳️⚧️

International Women’s Day - MAR 8, 2025
Title: Celebrating International Women’s Day: Honoring the Women Who Shape Our World
Every year on March 8th, the world comes together to celebrate International Women's Day (IWD)—a day dedicated to honoring the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It’s also an opportunity to raise awareness about gender inequality and the ongoing struggle for gender parity. As we reflect on the progress that has been made, we must also acknowledge the work still to be done to ensure that women’s voices are heard, valued, and uplifted across all spheres of society especially BLACK TRANS WOMEN.
The History of International Women's Day
International Women's Day has its roots in the early 20th century, a time when women around the world were demanding better working conditions, voting rights, and equal treatment in all aspects of life. The first National Women’s Day was celebrated in the United States in 1909, organized by the Socialist Party of America in honor of a workers' strike. But it wasn’t until 1910, at the International Women’s Conference in Copenhagen, that the idea for an international observance took hold, with Clara Zetkin, a German socialist, proposing the idea for an International Women's Day to promote equal rights for women globally.
The movement grew, and the day became an official global observance in 1977 when the United Nations declared it an official day for gender equality and women’s rights. Today, International Women’s Day is celebrated worldwide, with a specific theme chosen each year to highlight pressing issues and challenges that women face in various regions.
The Power of Women’s Voices
International Women's Day isn’t just about celebrating accomplishments; it’s also about amplifying the voices of women who are driving change. From leaders in politics, business, and the arts to grassroots activists and advocates for gender equality, women across the globe are showing what it means to break barriers and shatter stereotypes.
Women like Malala Yousafzai, who championed the right to education for girls worldwide, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, whose legal battles helped reshape the landscape of gender equality in the United States, continue to inspire future generations of women to stand up for what they believe in. In every corner of the world, women are redefining what it means to be powerful, resilient, and courageous.
Addressing Gender Inequality
Despite the progress made, gender inequality remains a significant issue in many parts of the world. Women still earn less than men for equal work, are underrepresented in leadership roles, and face discrimination based on gender, race, and socioeconomic status. The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected women, especially those working in frontline jobs, in the care economy, or in industries that were hit hardest by the global crisis.
International Women’s Day serves as a reminder that we must continue to fight for gender equality, ensuring that women have equal access to education, healthcare, economic opportunities, and political representation. We must also work toward eliminating violence against women and girls, which remains a pervasive issue in many societies.
The Theme of International Women's Day 2025
Each year, International Women's Day is built around a central theme that aims to address specific issues facing women globally. For 2025, the theme could focus on the intersection of gender equality and climate action, emphasizing the critical role women play in environmental sustainability and advocating for policies that create a more equitable and sustainable world. Women are often the most impacted by climate change, but they are also leading the charge in creating solutions and driving action toward a more sustainable future.
Conclusion
International Women’s Day is more than just a celebration; it’s a call to action. While it’s important to acknowledge the progress that has been made, we must continue to push for a future where all women—regardless of their background, race, or nationality—have equal opportunities to thrive. By supporting and empowering women, we help create a better world for everyone.
So today, and every day, let’s stand together and honor the incredible achievements of women, while also committing to a world where equality is the norm, not the exception. Because when women rise, we all rise.
