About the EWAKA 2SLGBTIQ+ Community Project
The EWAKA 2SLGBTIQ+ Community Project is a Black Trans-led, community-driven initiative that supports 2SLGBTIQ+ refugees and newcomers. Our mission is to provide transitional housing, culturally relevant settlement support, and community-based mental health services for Black Trans, gender-diverse, and QTBIPOC individuals fleeing persecution. We aim to create a brave and safe space for all Edmontonians to express themselves authentically, free from judgment.
This project serves a highly marginalized population, addressing their intersecting needs for safety, inclusion, and stability. We meet each participant where they are. We honor the courage it takes to ask for help. This project expansion is funded by the City of Edmonton’s 2SLGBTQIA+ Beyond Belonging Grant.
